Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez feels he has a stronger relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson after criticising the Manchester United manager.
Martinez was quoted in the Spanish press 18 months ago declaring Fergie enjoyed protection from a group of managers in the Premier League.
"When you have an incident like that you have to explain what happened and where it came from," said Martinez.
"In our business there is a lot of hearsay and sometimes you need to put things straight, but it has never been an issue.
"Every day you have to speak to people and make sure they are straight.
"Some are more high profile than others but it wasn't a problem at all because the relationship has always been good with him and the other managers mentioned, so if anything it makes you closer."
