Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is reluctant to part with midfielder Ben Watson.
Watson has been linked with promoted West Brom, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell this season.
Martinez said: "To go out to Albion and play the amount of games he did put him in position where, as soon as he came back, you could see he was ready to challenge for a place.
"Technically he is very good, but physically we felt he needed a bit of match sharpness to be able to affect games with his technical ability.
"I think the game against Arsenal will be the start of a very bright future for Ben at Wigan. The future, as with any player, is down to your performances, and football will always make the decision in that respect."
