Wigan boss Martinez non-committal about Campbell signing

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has admitted to being interested in free agent Sol Campbell but was non-committal about the chances of signing him.

The former Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender is sure to attract attention when the January transfer window opens because of his experience in the Premiership - something Martinez would love in his squad - but distanced himself from a definite move for the 35-year old.

"Well I am sure you cannot buy the sort of experience you can get through playing many years in the Premiership so that is going to be a big asset for any football club," Martinez told Sky Sports News.

"From our point of view I will always talk about the players we have got in the squad and I am not going to hide from the situation that we want to improve our football club, improve our playing staff and you can only do that in the [transfer] windows.

"And we are going to do exactly what we do in every window - try to follow as many players as we can and make sure we get the right ones."
