Wigan boss Martinez: McManaman can be England star

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez feels midfielder Callum McManaman is capable of playing for England.

The 21-year old winger hails from the same Huyton area of Liverpool as Steven Gerrard and can follow the Liverpool skipper into the senior England side, says Martinez.

"You only have to look at the players he is keeping out of the starting line-up here to see how he has done recently," he said.

"He has earned his place in the best possible way, by scoring goals and going on some great penetrating runs, and he has that raw talent that will be of huge benefit to England a few years down the line.

"He has represented England at Under 20 level and was involved in the squad for the youth World Cup in Colombia. In another three or four years, he will be someone who can bring something completely different to the England squad.

"He is someone who understands where the space is and can take people on. He is someone who learns quickly and is bright. He is an exciting talent for the future."
