Wigan boss Martinez: McCarthy excellent against Liverpool
Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez was delighted with the performance of James McCarthy after their win over Liverpool on Monday night.
Martinez hailed teenager McCarthy, a giant against Steven Gerrard, and justifying his decision to turn down Liverpool as a kid to make more steady progress to the top.
The Wigan chief said: "It didn't surprise me, nothing fazes him. He played against Brazil last week and now against his hero. It doesn't affect his decisions on the pitch.
"He looks like a really experience pro. He is a talker, he reads the game extremely well. His tactical knowledge is very rare for someone of his age but he has been playing since he was 15."
