Wigan boss Martinez: Man Utd youngster Cleverley is England's future

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez believes Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley is the future of England.

The Spaniard had the young Manchester United midfielder on loan last season and believes he's the type of player who can be the missing ingredient for Fabio Capello's side.

He said: "Cleverley and Jack Wilshere, for example, are of the Spanish level. Cleverley's special. But England should produce at least 50 Tom Cleverleys a year.

"The British player can be as good as any.

"The top English clubs have better ball possession now, plus the other ingredients - strong at set-pieces, the intensity, transition play - to be the best in the world."
