Wigan Athletic are launching a £6 million bid for Estudiantes striker Mauro Boselli.

The Mirror says Latics boss Roberto Martinez has called the Argentinian striker to confirm his interest in signing him - after his top scouts recommended a major splash.

The Spanish chief was able to 'sell' the idea to Boselli and now hopes to persuade chairman Dave Whelan to splash out on one of the most respected strikers in his homeland.

Boselli is also interesting Turkish side Fenerbahce, but Martinez hopes to convince him that the Premier League is the best move for him.
