Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to complete the signing of Estudiantes striker Mauro Boselli before the World Cup kicks off on Friday.
The South American club say they have accepted an offer from Wigan in excess of £6m for the highly-rated 25-year-old, who is part-owned by his former club Boca Juniors.
The transfer was complicated by the fact that Boca had signalled an interest in re-signing the player.
However, they look to have been blown out of the water by the money on offer from Wigan.
"We have received the new offer from Wigan Athletic and we need to chat with the directors of Boca and the representatives of Marco so we can define the transfer," said Estudiantes president Ruben Filipas.
