Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez says there was no chance of Steve Bruce nicking Hendry Thomas for Sunderland.

Martinez told the Manchester Evening News, "Hendry is determined to make an impact in the Premier League and is desperate to enjoy his football here at Wigan.

"He was excited about joining us, we've tracked him for some time and we were the first club that showed an interest in signing him.

"There is only one club for him. He's settled in well."
