Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez hopes Dave Whelan stays long-term as chairman.
Whelan wants to find someone to take over the club's running costs, but Martinez is urging the Latics supremo to stay around a bit longer.
He said: "I can't imagine the chairman not being here. He has created this dream and I can't understand it without him.
"The chairman is determined to leave a legacy. It's about planning for the future rather than the short term.
"We are achieving our aims away from the game. We have reduced the budget and we have got ourselves in a strong financial position."
