Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is happy to remain committed to the cause at the DW.
But he explained to The Sun: "The support and loyalty Dave Whelan has given me is sadly rare in football. And it's only natural to want to pay back that loyalty.
"It's impossible for me to ever let him down.
"He told me the day I joined, 'If you get relegated twice, you'll still be the manager and will have to get us out of League One!'
"Last summer was a time for reflection after my first three years here. The chairman himself had to think what he wanted to do next with the club and his position.
"In the end, we both decided we wanted to push Wigan forward and leave a legacy here for the next 25 to 30 years."
