Wigan boss Martinez determined to beat Sunderland, Birmingham for Suazo

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is determined to beat all-comers for Chile star Humberto Suazo.

The Sun says Wigan are preparing a club record £7million bid for Suazo.

Boss Roberto Martinez has targeted Monterrey hitman Suazo - known as 'The Fat Man' - as a ready-made replacement for Hugo Rodallega.

Birmingham and Sunderland are also eyeing a swoop for Suazo, 29, who started two of Chile's four matches in South Africa.

Wigan fear losing Colombian Rodallega with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Stoke City all keen.

Martinez would be left with only new buy Mauro Boselli, Jason Scotland and Victor Moses up front.

He said: "I expect a few people to come in and hopefully we will balance the squad."
