Wigan boss Hutchings explains Bouaouzan delays

Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings has disclosed that Rachid Bouaouzan's chances of breaking into the first team have been limited because he has been fasting during Ramadan.

Bouaouzan, 23, who signed a three-year deal from Sparta Rotterdam has only played for the reserves. As a Muslim he has not been eating at regular hours during the festival.

Hutchings said: "You have to respect a person's religious beliefs and Rachid has been fasting.

"It's a bit of a problem because he can't eat from when the sun comes up until it goes down."

Hutchings added: "The lads had to acclimatise but I've no doubt that he will be a decent and important player for us."
