Wigan boss Bruce: Palacios can be difference

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce believes the signing of Wilson Palacios could prove the difference between safety and relegation this season.

Bruce believes having players like Palacios could provide the difference between staying up and going down for his 14th-placed side.

The Honduran was initially signed on loan by Bruce while he was still manager at Birmingham but when he moved to the JJB Stadium he did not waste any time in bringing in the midfielder on a permanent deal.

"It is quite rewarding that you find someone like that," said Bruce, who credited Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger with tipping him off about the player.

"When you see him play on a big stage like that he has been an unbelievable buy and I have to thank Mr Wenger because he was the one who alerted me to him.

"He has proved to be a very good player."
