Wigan boss Bruce leans on Sir Alex influence

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce admits he models his management style on his old Manchester United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bruce says he learned a great deal from 'the master' at Old Trafford and, with Wigan struggling right now, he admits he would give anything to reproduce the Fergie formula for proven success.

Bruce said: "Since leaving United I must have been asked 25,000 times what I learned from playing under Sir Alex and one thing stands out - the man's winning mentality.

"It didn't matter either what the game was, or who were providing the opposition, he simply sent his team out to win every single match they played.

"Winning was everything. Sir Alex is phenomenal and what I'd give right now to sprinkle a bit of that magic dust here at Wigan.

"Everyone who plays under him can learn so much. I initially enjoyed working with youngsters in soccer schools but then Sheffield United came in with an offer to be player-manager and I guess once you get a crack at management you get the bug. That's been the case for me and it's the road I've gone down."
