Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce admits he fancies signing permanently on-loan Zenit St Petersburg defender Erik Hagen.

Bruce said: "Erik is a typical centre-half, a brute of a man and a typical no-nonsense defender.

"He is strong, good in the air and he will fit in here. I've been watching him for a few years and have been greatly impressed with him.

"I'm absolutely delighted to get him here at Wigan and it's with a view to a permanent deal.

"The problem getting the deal done last week before the deadline closed was doing it on time so we got him on loan and we'll look to tie it up permanently at the end of the season."
