Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce has paid tribute to chairman Dave Whelan and his staff after guiding the club to Premiership safety.
"I give great credit to the squad and to the staff who followed me here. They've been a delight to work with since Christmas," he said. "I remember in December when we had nine points and I was thinking, 'we're in trouble'. To get 31 since Christmas is fantastic.
"I'm delighted also to have repaid the chairman, Mr Whelan, who forked out an unbelievable sum of money (around £3million in compensation to Birmingham) and had that faith in me that I was the man to turn his club around.
"He deserves his team to be in the Premier League and I'm chuffed to bits not to have to wait until next week."
