Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce has hailed Wilson Palacios for playing on despite his younger brother's kidnapping back home in Honduras.
The player's 15-year- old brother Edwin has not been seen since he was seized in October.
Bruce said: "He's made of tough stuff where he comes from. I'm sure it will get sorted out. The family has been in touch with the brother.
"It's not easy for the kid but he has a tough mentality. His family can feel very proud of him."
Bruce, who took Palacios, 23, after Arsene Wenger recommended him, was surprised that Alex McLeish, his successor at St Andrews, did not want to keep him. He said: "Alex hadn't seen enough of him."
