Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce believes goalkeeper Chris Kirkland can be England's No1 for the next ten years.

"You need to get your chance. And if Chris does get that chance then I'm absolutely convinced he would make the position his. He's got all the ingredients," said Bruce.

"He's big, he's commanding, he kicks it well, and he's as brave as a lion - sometimes too brave.

"He goes for things other people would cringe at.

"And he's daft. He's up there with all the daft goalkeepers. He'll fly at things.

"He just needs to stay clear of the horrible injuries he's had. But when you work with him, you realise just how good he is."
