Wigan await specialists report on injured striker di Santo

Wigan forward Franco di Santo is awaiting test results on an ankle injury within the next 24 hours. The 21-year-old Argentinian has recently seen a specialist in London in a bid to solve the ankle problem that has been dogging him for almost two months.

Di Santo has been playing through the pain barrier since mid-October but the decision was made by the club to get to the route of the problem.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez is keen to find out how long his player will face on the sidelines.

"We sent Franco to see the specialist and are now waiting for the full diagnosis," Martinez told Wigan Today.

"He picked up the problem at Newcastle and has been struggling with it ever since.

"We've been managing it carefully to make sure he has remained available, but the West Ham game last week was the final straw. It was just impossible for him to continue, impossible for him to even kick a ball.

"It's in a very deep part of his ankle, quite high up, which is making it difficult to tell what's wrong. There's nothing we can do until we get the specialists report back, because it could be two or three different things."
