Wigan Athletic matchwinner Shaun Maloney says victory over Manchester United went some way to erasing the manner of defeat at Chelsea.

It was a sweet moment for everyone at Wigan after the injustice of their defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

Maloney, 29, added: "It was the performance at Chelsea that proved to us we can compete against the top sides.

"And being at home we felt we had a chance - even though it was United."
