Burglars were sent packing by the wife of Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili.
The 27-year-old from Georgia has become the latest Premier League star to be targeted by thieves while he was taking part in a game.
The house, in Worsley, Greater Manchester, was attacked on Wednesday night as Rovers took on Sunderland in the Carling Cup.
The burglars tried to gain entry into the property by smashing a window in the back door.
They were confronted by Khizanishvili 's wife, who has not been named, and fled the scene.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "On Thursday morning we were informed of an attempted burglary at an address in Worsley, Salford.
"The offenders threw a brick at the back door and shattered the glass. They were disturbed by the occupant of the house, who was inside with her two children, and the offenders fled.
