Wickham says Sunderland showed right approach for Swansea win

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham was delighted with the manner of victory over Swansea City.

Stephane Sessegnon and Craig Gardner both netted spectacular goals against a City outfit who had plenty of possession but failed to break down the hosts.

"Swansea played well against Arsenal and came into the game on a high," the striker told SAFC TV.

"We needed to pick it back up again and we did that. It was a great result for us.

"After the first five minutes I was breathing heavily but we expected Swansea to keep the ball and make us chase it.

"We had a game plan and it worked.

"We had to patient and make sure we didn't try to win the ball in silly areas. As a team we were compact, pressed in numbers and got the ball back when we needed to."
