Why Milinkovic-Savic will unlock Man Utd - & Pogba's - full potential

COMMENT: Speaking on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's ability, former Chelsea marksman turned football agent Mateja Kezman said: "He has the touch of a Brazilian and some of the things he does reminds me of Zinedine Zidane" he also added that the 23-year-old has "a better quality than Paul Pogba" before tipping the Lazio midfielder to become a candidate for the Ballon d'Or.

It's easy to dismiss Kezman's words as an overestimation of Milinkovic-Savic's ability. He is the Serbia international's agent and is probably looking to boost Sergej's standing in the world game ahead of the summer transfer window.

But like it or not, there is some substance to those claims as Milinkovic-Savic has bagged nine goals in 24 appearances from midfield this season.

Milinkovic-Savic has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Italian top flight this season, which has resulted in some interest from the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester United. His price range is still unconfirmed but a move is likely to command a hefty fee.

The Red Devils have come a long way since the days of David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal.

They now find themselves back in contention for the Premier League title but with the advent of a seemingly unstoppable Manchester City side, United have to bolster their ranks during the summer transfer window in a bid to topple their local rivals en route to league success.

And Sergej Milinkovic-Savic might just be the answer to that.

Whilst he's not yet the world beater he's being made out to be, Sergej still has a lot to offer United given their midfield could do with an extra man in order to make the 4-3-3 formation viable enough for Jose Mourinho to utilise on a consistent basis which would, in turn, unlock Paul Pogba's full potential.

Standing at 6'3 with a great physique, Sergej possesses the frame of a towering centre-back thus making him capable of shoving most players off the ball with ease.

But despite his height, he's blessed with excellent technique and nimble footwork which allows him to go past players and boss the middle of the park.

His strength and ability on the ball aren't the only things that make the Serbia international special considering he has the ability to find the back of the net within, but not limited to, the 18-yard-area due to his decent finishing and thunderous shot power.

In addition to all that, the 23-year-old is also a very skilled passer of the ball and somewhat of an expert at wowing the crowd.

With all those skills, the hype that currently surrounds Milinkovic-Savic's name isn't farfetched, but still a bit over the top thanks to social media and his agent.

Milinkovic-Savic still needs to work on improving the defensive part of his game before he can truly be considered a complete player. But at the moment, he's decent enough at retrieving the ball and pressuring opponents into giving it away.

He currently features as a central midfielder in Simone Inzaghi's 3-5-2 formation, where he's granted some freedom to move up the pitch in a bid to maximise his influence in games in a way that draws parallels to Pogba's time at Juventus.

In a 4-3-3 formation at United he would ideally feature as a left central midfielder, whilst Nemanja Matic gets deployed in the middle and Paul Pogba features as a right central-midfielder which could see him play his best football and in turn, get United firing on all cylinders.

Pogba being handed a free role by Jose Mourinho would result in Milinkovic-Savic becoming United's engine in midfield as he'd push forward to create goalscoring chances and get on the end of things whilst also maintaining his defensive responsibilities.

Matic would assume the mantle of the team's main defensive force in midfield thus forming a formidable and physical trio with Milinkovic-Savic and Pogba - capable of instilling fear into their opponents.

A midfield full of creativity and strength will allow the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez to flourish up front as they'll be provided with quality passes to latch on to as opposed to feeding off scraps more often than not in United's current set-up.

Milinkovic-Savic has the skill-set required to take United to the next level, but with so many clubs being linked with moves for him, Jose Mourinho had better act fast in a bid to successfully secure his signature.
