Why Man City, West Ham and Man Utd are asking after Olympics sensation Moussa Konate

He's the hottest thing we've seen at the London Olympics - and has half the Premier League chasing his signature.

But barely two years ago, Moussa Konate was playing in the Senegalese SECOND DIVISION!

Now the 19 year-old Maccabi Tel Aviv striker is the subject of offers from West Ham United and Stoke City, plus enquiries from Fulham, Manchester City and Tottenham. Even Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made two personal checks on him during the Olympics football tournament.

"There is madness around him," declared Moussa's uncle, Ibrahima Konate. "The phone never stops ringing - especially on Sunday after the match against Uruguay.

"It's almost been harassment."

Ibrahima admits the world's best dealmakers are trying to get a piece of Moussa before his inevitable move to England. They're all demanding 'exclusivity' revealed Ibrahima to APS "but of course we decline such requests.

"Some of them then turn unpleasant. But we can handle it."

Konate has only been playing in Europe for 12 months, having made the move from Toure Kunda de Mbour after helping them win the local FA Cup. In Israel, the teen didn't stumble and found the step up comfortable. He quickly became a first-choice under caretaker coach Nir Levin and not only thrived in domestic competition, but also shone in the Europa League.

At Maccabi Tel Aviv, Konate is working closely with sports director Jordi Cruyff, the former Manchester United and Barcelona striker.

His profile may have exploded this past fortnight, but Senegalese football have been aware of Konate for some years.

Henri Camara, the former West Ham United and Wigan Athletic star, admits he gets excited every time he sees the teen in action.

"In addition to being fast, he scores goals. When I see him wear the number seven, it brings back good memories: when I was at the height of my career in the National Team. I encourage him.

"He is a player that I've been following with interest for quite some time. I am proud of him," said Camara.

Konate's goal scoring power has shocked his opponents at the Games, but Camara isn't surprised.

"I've seen him play on the flanks for the national team. But I think his best position is centrally. He is a born goal scorer. He is powerful and decisive."

There's a great pride running through Senegalese football over Konate's sudden rise. The youngster is a favourite at home and after a successful first season in Israel, his gesture of buying a number of new footballs for his old club made the backpages of the local press.

"These balls I've offered are nothing compared to what I have received from this club, which gave me so much," Konate said ahead of joining the Senegal squad for their Olympics campaign.

With a move to England now expected, Konate is being backed to keep his feet on the ground.

Camara adds: "I'd tell him not to lose his head. But I don't think there's any danger of that happening. He's a humble kid. He's behaves in the right way. He just needs to continue as he is."
