Chelsea's draw at Burnley on February 12 has seen the gap at the summit drop from ten points to eight with Manchester City making the most of their chances against AFC Bournemouth the following day.
Judging by their recent performances, the Citizens have evidently woken up from their deep slumber – Everton deserve most of the credit for City's rude awakening following the 4-0 defeat Pep Guardiola's men succumbed to at Goodison Park back in mid-January.
For much of the season, the strength of the top six and their ability to clinch the title have been the popular narrative, whilst in truth, all we've witnessed thus far is a five-way battle for three Champions League spots with Chelsea sitting comfortably above everybody else.
The title race changed its course when Chelsea boss Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation in the second half against Arsenal back in September.
Since then, Chelsea have been relentless in games as they first thumped teams with regularity before employing a much more sturdy approach, all while sitting atop the table.
The chasing pack constantly switched places beneath Chelsea due to inconsistency.
They're seemingly stable now, but the next few weeks could see the emergence of a real title challenger, or it could further affirm Man City's status as Chelsea's main competition?
After dominating the league to an extent where the title race has been virtually non-existent, Chelsea are now less than three wins clear of City who not too long ago were in a dysfunctional state, but now sit second on the back of a three-game winning run.
An eight-point gap is nothing more than three losses. From City's point of view, defeats that don't have to come consecutively as long as they eventually arrive before May.
Just one loss for Chelsea, though, could instil a state of panic at Stamford Bridge and in order to avoid landing on a slippery slope, Antonio Conte needs to ensure his players are mentally prepared for a defeat or two with 13 games left to play.
Whilst the likelihood of Chelsea dropping points in this manner is quite small, the seemingly miniscule opportunity for a slip-up to occur has the potential to grow as we enter into that stage of the term where every game is like a cup final, most especially for those teams hoping to win something and avoid relegation.
Changes to the gap between Chelsea and the chasing pack have been minimal since Conte began to exert his influence at the West London club and Blues fans can rest assured the Italian will have plans in place to keep it that way.
The Man City Factor
Fraud, arrogant, confused; these are just some of the words that were used to describe Guardiola during Manchester City's rut.
To the Premier League, he's now back to being a genius seeing as his painstaking decisions have begun to pay dividends.
From being ruled out of the title race to potentially being the only side capable of toppling Chelsea, Guardiola will be pleased with his team's recent showings.
At the moment, Chelsea still have a sizeable lead at the top of the table, and thanks to Conte's experience vying for titles; things are likely to stay that way for quite some time.
The plot, though, is sure to thicken when the season's denouement draws nearer, and that's when Chelsea fans and the playing staff alike need to keep their fingers crossed and their performance levels up in a bid to ward off a potential threat from City and prevent another AGUEROOOO goal from being the title decider.
By April, we should have a clearer picture of how things will pan out at the top end of the table, but until then, the onus is on City to do the Premier League's indignant clubs a favour and attempt to overtake Chelsea.
Or at least make a real race of it.
