Why Bundesliga has embarrassed Man Utd boss Van Gaal

COMMENT: There are plenty of sticks with which you can bash Louis Van Gaal – but the Bundesliga is perhaps the greatest cause of embarrassment for the Manchester United boss.

Anyone with even the remotest social media presence will have been kept informed of Javier Hernandez's goal-scoring exploits for Bayer Leverkusen.

To date, the Mexican poacher has top-scored for his new side, notching 11 goals, a tally bettered only by three of the league's galacticos – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Robert Lewandowski, and Thomas Muller.

The striker has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Liverpool and Inter Milan, barely six months after being ditched by LVG – the Chicharito of it.

But he isn't the only issue highlighted by the German top flight, after the frankly baffling decision to loan Adnan Januzaj to Dortmund back-fired.

And there's another more pertinent example, going slightly more under the radar.

United fans have bemoaned their teams lack of creativity this season, with an inability to unlock defences and break at speed.

If only they had a fleet-footed playmaker with dynamism and drive.

Except, they did – but then offloaded him unceremoniously to Dortmund, days after landing Angel Di Maria, another player they could've done with keeping.

Since making the homecoming, Kagawa has been inspired mood – becoming part of BVB's irresistible attacking triumvirate, alongside Aubameyang and Marco Reus.

He offers the men in gold an ability to beat opposition players with or without the ball – equally adept at playing a killer pass, often for Aubameyang to latch onto, or ghost past his marker.

This season, he has had a hand in ten goals, second to just Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Dortmund, and the third best total in the division.

His quiet, unassuming displays have reaffirmed his cult status amongst Dortmund fans, and have reminded scouts of his latent abilities.

In fact, if he hadn't been jettisoned from Old Trafford quite so brutally, he'd be exactly the type of talent to be linked with the task of reviving the ailing giant.

Almost certainly, it'd be a move Kagawa would resist – but don't rule out Premier League interest in him this summer.
