Whitehead in line for new Stoke deal

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis is planning to offer fresh terms to midfielder Dean Whitehead. The 31 year old has found Premier League starts hard to come by this season - making just eight so far - but remains an important part of the senior set-up.

"He is one of those that the closer we get to the end of the season we will hopefully discuss things," Pulis told The Sentinel.

The Stoke boss has also been discussing the future of Matthew Upson, who has been sent on loan to Championship promotion hopefuls Brighton.

Pulis concedes that the 33-year-old no longer figures in his plans and will not be offered an extension to a contract which is due to run until the end of the season.

He added: "Matty is at Brighton to get himself a contract.

"He hasn't played as much for us as he would have wanted, but he has been brilliant for us."
