Dean White is being lined up for a move to Sunderland.
The Sunday Sun says Sunderland boss Steve Bruce wants to bring his old Gillingham team-mate White to Wearside as his new chief scout.
White played alongside the Sunderland boss at the Priestfield Stadium for a year before Bruce moved on to Norwich City in 1984.
Sunderland parted company with Ricky Sbragia, who had headed their scouting set-up for the last 18 months, last week and Bruce is looking to make a quick appointment to ensure the Black Cats do not lose ground in the race to recruit new players in the summer.
