Whiskey and a cigarette! Why Lyon dropped Adebayor interest

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has revealed that Emmanuel Adebayor's behaviour during transfer talks caused the prospective move to fall through.

Adebayor was released at the end of his contract by Crystal Palace this summer and it looked like French Ligue 1 outfit Lyon were ready to make a swoop for the 32-year-old.

However, the transfer mysteriously fell over with Lyon boss Genesio revealing that he decided not to sign Adebayor due to the striker's odd behaviour during a meeting, where he ordered whiskey in his coffee as well as smoked a cigarette.

Genesio said: "We had a place in our squad for Manu, so I arranged to meet him for a coffee in Lyon

"But, to my surprise, when he arrived he asked for a shot of whisky in his coffee. He also had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

"In short, the interview began badly. I had been ready to listen to him, as this was a guy who had played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

"But what followed confirmed my first impression that there was no room for him at our club."
