Whelan: Wigan FA Cup semi will be nerve-wracking

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan admits their FA Cup semi with Millwall will be "nerve-wracking".

The sportswear tycoon, 76, hopes it will help erase the memory of the 1960 final when his career was wrecked by a broken leg suffered in Blackburn's 3-0 loss to Wolves.

He told The Sun: "I don't think there is anyone that has played in an FA Cup final and then gone back owning a team and taking them to a semi-final so a little bit of history will be made.

"It will be really nerve-wracking for me. I had my leg and my heart broken in the 1960 final - so it will be a great experience for me.

"Nothing can completely erase those painful memories but it will ease them somewhat.

"Walking out at Wembley is an unbelievable feeling."
