Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan wants manager Roberto Martinez to stay following their relegation.
Martinez is being linked with Everton.
"Weāve got one ambition now, and that is to come straight back up next season,ā Whelan told talkSPORT.
āWe will fight next year, and weāll look to come back within that first season, itās so important.
āRoberto knows how I feel about him and I know how Roberto feels about me and the club, heās a very, very loyal gentleman.
āWhen the days dawns - and it will - when he says, āchairman, I want to go to this or that clubā, I will release him immediately.
āHe is aware of that, and if that time is now, so be it.
āBut somehow I donāt think it will be. Iām just hoping Roberto waits and has another one or two years with us, because he will eventually go to a top European club.ā
