Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan wants manager Roberto Martinez to stay following their relegation.
Martinez is being linked with Everton.
"Weâve got one ambition now, and that is to come straight back up next season,â Whelan told talkSPORT.
âWe will fight next year, and weâll look to come back within that first season, itâs so important.
âRoberto knows how I feel about him and I know how Roberto feels about me and the club, heâs a very, very loyal gentleman.
âWhen the days dawns - and it will - when he says, âchairman, I want to go to this or that clubâ, I will release him immediately.
âHe is aware of that, and if that time is now, so be it.
âBut somehow I donât think it will be. Iâm just hoping Roberto waits and has another one or two years with us, because he will eventually go to a top European club.â
