Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan is ready to spend £500,000 on a new pitch at the JJB Stadium this summer.

The surface was slated by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in the recent 0-0 draw but Latics deny the groundshare with rugby side Wigan is to blame.
