Former Crewe Alexandra midfielder Ashley Westwood is delighted with his progress at Aston Villa.

Westwood will play a key role in today's massive relegation scrap at Stoke, still pinching himself that he's in the big time.

The midfielder said: "I grew up watching Manchester United - and Michael Carrick is the player I based my game on.

"The gaffer gave me the name. He's been brilliant but likes to keep my feet on the ground. He says, 'Don't try 30-yard balls, just be a water carrier'."
