West Ham's Upson shrugs off Bruce claims

West Ham United defender Matthew Upson shrugged off a difficult return to Birmingham City on Saturday.

After the 1-0 win, Upson brushed off suggestions from City manager Steve Bruce that he would not regain his England spot.

Upson said: "Steve Bruce has his right to his opinion. Steve is irrelevant to my career now. Whatever Steve's opinion is, that's fine.

"He is not the person I've got to show I'm good enough to play for England. He is welcome to say what he wants. It has got no affect on my career and what I do."
