While Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley snubbed a call-up to last summer's U21 European Championships, West Ham's Mark Noble says the decision to go to Holland was the best he's ever made.
"It was tempting to be on a sunny beach somewhere but when your country calls and you have the chance to play in a massive tournament, there was only one thing I was ever going to do and that was play.
"My mates said they had a great time - about three hours sleep in two weeks! I'm sure they watched all the games out there with a cold beer in their hand and their feet up - I was running my n**s off in 100 degrees with the roof of the stadium shut."
Noble has also backed Bentley to silence his critics.
"He really wants it and I'm sure with his performances he will overcome that," said the 20-year-old.
