West Ham United's signing of injury-prone Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg went a long way to contributing to former chairman Eggert Magnusson's demise, it has been revealed.
The Daily Mail says an important factor in Magnusson losing his position of power at West Ham - where he has been replaced by the club owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson - was the £3m summer signing of Ljungberg.
It's understood that Magnusson moved for the 30-year-old, who has a long record of injuries, without much consultation, if any, with his Icelandic colleagues.
