West Ham United striker Dean Ashton is determined to prove himself at international level.
"I'm part of that group that's more than capable of performing at this level.
"I believe there's a huge space for the big striker like me. I feel I'm good enough to be able to step up to that level.
"There are some very good English players about and sometimes you just need to be given a chance to impress.
"People say I don't have electric pace but I don't think Teddy Sheringham did either. I'd like to feel the pace I have is in my brain and in the way I play.
"I'm not saying Wayne Rooney isn't an unbelievable player but I feel I can get in the team as well.
"It's been two very difficult years. I've had a few doubters. I'm back to the player I was, maybe even better with the mental side.
"I feel I've had to be very strong mentally to get back to this position."
