West Ham, Wigan go for released Arsenal defender Silvestre

West Ham United are moving for off contract Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre.

The Daily Star says the Frenchman, 32, was released by Arsenal earlier this summer, but is eager to stay in the Premier League.

Hammers boss Avram Grant was forced to pull out of a deal for Tal Ben Haim after the Israeli failed a medical and could now turn to former Manchester United centre-half Silvestre.

But Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is also interested - after losing Titus Bramble to Sunderland this week.

Silvestre made 12 Premier League appearances for Arsenal last season, but failed to nail down a starting spot.
