West Ham United's failure to find a buyer for Ricardo Vaz Te opened the door for Carlton Cole's return today.
The Daily Mail says the Hammers held successful talks yesterday ahead of a medical and manager Sam Allardyce hopes to finalise Cole's capture on Wednesday.
Allardyce was keen to sign Chelsea's Demba Ba on loan and was offered various strikers from Italy on loan deals.
However, they needed to sell to push finance those moves and Vaz Te's move to Norwich City ultimately fell through.
