West Ham United have warned Benni McCarthy he must get back into shape if he wants to stay at Upton Park.

The Mirror says West Ham have ordered McCarthy to lose weight before pre-season - or face the chop.

South African striker McCarthy, 32, failed to score for the Hammers following a £2million January move from Blackburn.

And the star infuriated his paymasters as he piled on the pounds despite earning £50,000-a-week.

McCarthy was subsequently embarrassingly dropped by South Africa for their home World Cup finals.
