The People says they expected the England defender to leave this summer and admitted a £6million fee could prise him away.

But there was a surprising lack of interest and Upson is now in a situation where he will consider an extended contract with the Hammers.

His current deal expires in the summer and owner David Gold is adamant he does not want Upson leaving on a free.
