West Ham steward Tartaglia not going to World Cup with Capello

Danny Tartaglia is not going to the World Cup with England.

The Daily Mail says Tartaglia, a West Ham match-day steward, was ever-present alongside Fabio Capello on public occasions for two years during the Italian's struggle to improve his English, which always markedly deteriorated after trips home.

And it was widely expected that Capello would have Tartaglia on hand as a safety net at the World Cup, where the manager's every word will be analysed.

But Capello believes he no longer needs the daily help of an interpreter and the FA felt they couldn't justify taking Tartaglia to the tournament if he was rarely going to be required.

Capello personally told Tartaglia of the decision and presented him with a signed England shirt.
