West Ham sack Avram Grant

Avram Grant has lost his job as manager of West Ham United after today's loss to Wigan Athletic.

The Israeli tactician's sacking is the first act of owners David Sullivan and David Gold after the East London club were relegated from the Premier League.

Today at Wigan's DW stadium, the Hammers squandered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2, securing their fate as they drop down to the second tier for the first time since they were promoted in 2006.

A club statement soon after the Wigan game read: "The club can confirm that Avram Grant is no longer the manager of West Ham United.

"First-team coach Kevin Keen will take charge of the team for the final home match of the season against Sunderland on Sunday 22 May."

This summer will now be a very interesting one for the Hammers as they go on the hunt for a new manager as well as looking to act heavily in the transfer market from a selling viewpoint as the drop will cost them up to £40million.
