West Ham's Keen to play next season's Championship side against Sunderland

West Ham United caretaker boss Kevin Keen has indicated that he will field a side similar to the that which he wants on the park for the opening Championship match next season.

The relegated Hammers meet Sunderland at Upton Park on Sunday in the final game of the season and Keen says that any player who is unlikely to be at the club next season will not start against the Black Cats.

"There is no denying that we're bottom of the league and we've underperformed. But as far as I'm concerned the first game of next season is on Sunday," Keen said.

"It will be a West Ham side. That's what I want. Players going out there who will play for the claret and blue shirt, show real desire to play for that shirt and hopefully show flair and ability that this club deserves.

"I've seen this week that those with a great chance of being here next season have perhaps trained a little bit more enthusiastically than those who have a chance of not being here. The majority of the team will be those appearing next year for us."

It is believed that star midfielder Scott Parker will not make the game because of injury whilst Matthew Upson is unlikely to get an Upton Park farewell.
