West Ham United manager Avram Grant was looking forward to having a player of the ilk of Robbie Keane at his disposal.
The Tottenham striker will land at Upton Park on a six-month deal where he will be striving to pull the Hammers out of the relegation zone.
Grant said Keane was the perfect player to add to his squad and spoke of his delight regarding the loan deal.
"I like him as a player - he is a good player and also a very strong character," he said.
"He's an intelligent player and one who can score goals so it's good for us."
West Ham co-owner David Gold agreed with Grant's sentiments, telling BBC: "We're delighted to sign a world-class striker.
"Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain but we've got our man."
