West Ham are competing with Arsenal for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Marca says after the arrivals of Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne, the Belgian international has been told he is surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou.

Roma have been alerted to his situation, and have already commenced negotiations with the La Liga champions about a move.

Vermaelen's former club Arsenal, as well as West Ham United, are also interested in his signature.

Barcelona are open to letting Vermaelen leave on loan, but are demanding an obligatory 10-12 million euros to make it permanent at the end of the season.
