West Ham United boss Gianfranco Zola is closing in on Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni.

German sources say Zola is preparing a three-year contract offer worth £3 million-a-season to bring the Italian to London in January.

The stumbling block will be Toni's fee, as Hammers management are reluctant to cough up to sign the World Cup winner, who is facing a year in the reserves if he remains with Bayern this season.
