West Ham United co-owner David Gold believes Southampton's signing of Charlie Austin is not a bargain due to the striker's exorbitant £100,000-per-week wages.
The Saints have been praised for landing the former Queens Park Rangers front man for a transfer fee of just £4milllion, but Gold believes the deal does not actually represent the value for money many seem to think.
Gold took to Twitter to reply to a Hammers fan who tweeted at him saying: “4 mill is a bargain Austin is a brilliant player one of the best English strikers there is right now.'"
Gold responded by questioning the 'bargain' label being placed on Austin given his salary demands.
Is he a bargain if his wages are £100,000 per week? dg https://t.co/fR3ZVCcxob
