West Ham, Newcastle target Jota left out of Brentford squad

Brentford left Jota out of their squad for the friendly with Aldershot.

With his contract due to expire at the end of next season Jota would be expected to cost around £8 million and has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Newcastle, says the London Evening Standard.

The Spanish midfielder met with the club hierarchy on Thursday when it was agreed that there was no need for him to risk his fitness in the pre-season fixture at the Recreation Ground against non-League opposition.

Jota, who has also attracted interest from Spain, scored 12 goals in 27 appearances for Brentford last season and the Bees would still hope the 26-year-old signs a contract extension despite the widespread interest in his services.
